Steelers’ Refusal To Spend On Expanding Coaching Staff ‘A Huge Problem’, Pryor Says

The Pittsburgh Steelers have long been known for their consistency and commitment to a certain way of doing things. But according to Brooke Pryor, their refusal to invest in expanding the coaching staff is becoming a serious issue—one that could cripple the team’s ability to compete at the highest level.

Pryor recently called out the Steelers for their reluctance to spend on additional coaching resources, a trend that has persisted despite the evolving nature of the NFL. While top teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, and Philadelphia Eagles continue to expand their coaching staffs, the Steelers seem content sticking to their old ways. But is this frugality actually hurting the team?

Many analysts believe it is. The modern NFL is a complex chess match, with coaching staffs growing to meet the increasing demands of player development, game-planning, and in-game adjustments. Yet, the Steelers appear unwilling to keep up, relying on a leaner staff while expecting to compete against teams that are investing in every advantage possible.

This cost-cutting approach may explain some of the struggles the Steelers have faced in recent years. Their offense, in particular, has been heavily criticized for its lack of creativity and development. While teams with elite offensive minds are maximizing their talent, the Steelers have often appeared stagnant. The decision to hold onto offensive coordinator Matt Canada for too long only highlighted the organization’s hesitance to shake things up.

At some point, the Steelers must decide: Are they serious about winning championships, or are they just trying to do the bare minimum to remain competitive? If they continue to pinch pennies when it comes to coaching, they might find themselves falling further behind in an increasingly competitive AFC.
