NEW YORK CITY COUNCIL VOTES TO RENAME JIMI HENDRIX WAY, SPARKING OUTRAGE AMONG…
In a surprise move, the New York City Council has voted to rename West 8th Street, currently known as Jimi Hendrix Way, to “Vincent Chase Boulevard” in honor of the fictional Hollywood actor from the hit TV show Entourage.
The decision, which was made during a heated council meeting, has left many Hendrix fans and local residents outraged. “This is a travesty,” said Hendrix superfan, Michael Lang. “Jimi Hendrix was a musical icon and a true New York City legend. He deserves to have a street named after him, not some fictional TV character.”
The proposal to rename the street was introduced by Councilman Eric Donovan, who claimed that Vincent Chase was a “cultural icon” who deserved recognition. However, many have questioned the councilman’s motives, citing his well-known connections to the entertainment industry.
Despite the backlash, the city council has confirmed that the name change will take effect on January 1, 2025. A ceremony to unveil the new street sign is planned for later that month.
Hendrix fans and supporters are already organizing a petition to have the decision overturned. “We will not go quietly into the night,” said Lang. “We will fight to keep Jimi Hendrix’s legacy alive in New York City.”
