In a devastating blow to the Cincinnati Reds’ playoff hopes, star second baseman Jonathan India has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained hamstring.
India, 27, suffered the injury during Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs, when he pulled up lame while running out a double.
“We’re extremely disappointed to lose Jonathan for any amount of time,” said Reds Manager, David Bell. “He’s a key player for us, and his absence will be felt. But we have to move forward and find ways to win without him.”
The Reds, who are currently tied for second place in the National League Central Division, will have to rely on backup infielder Matt McLain to fill India’s spot in the lineup.
India is expected to miss at least 2-3 weeks, which could jeopardize the Reds’ chances of making a deep playoff run.
