JUST IN:Charlie O’Brien Elected to Oakland Athletics Hall Of…
OAKLAND, CA – January 10, 2025
The Oakland Athletics announced today that former catcher Charlie O’Brien has been elected to the team’s Hall of Fame. O’Brien played for the Athletics from 1985 to 1988 and was a key member of the team’s 1987 American League West division-winning squad.
“Charlie was an outstanding catcher and an integral part of our team’s success during the 1980s,” said Athletics’ General Manager, David Forst. “His defensive skills and leadership behind the plate were invaluable.”
O’Brien, 64, will be formally inducted into the Athletics’ Hall of Fame on July 22, 2025, in a pre-game ceremony at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.
Career Highlights
– Played 15 seasons in MLB (1985-2000)
– Caught 1,235 games, ranking 45th all-time
– Threw out 32.4% of base stealers, 12th-best in MLB history
– Hit .221 with 56 HRs and 261 RBIs
Reaction

O’Brien joins other Athletics’ legends, including Reggie Jackson, Rickey Henderson, and Dennis Eckersley, in the team’s Hall of Fame.
