ELENA RYBAKINA OPENS UP ABOUT HER TOUGHEST…
In an intimate interview, Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina revealed her most challenging opponent to date: her own self-doubt.
“Growing up, I always felt like I wasn’t good enough,” Rybakina confessed. “I’d win a match, but then I’d think, ‘Was it just luck?’ or ‘Did my opponent just have a bad day?'”
Rybakina’s self-doubt escalated during her early days on the WTA tour. “I’d look around and see all these talented players, and I’d think, ‘I don’t belong here.'”
However, Rybakina’s breakthrough came when she realized that her self-doubt was not only holding her back but also affecting her relationships with loved ones.
“I remember talking to my mom, and she told me, ‘Elena, you’re so much harder on yourself than anyone else is,'” Rybakina recalled. “That really stuck with me. I realized that I needed to be kinder to myself and focus on my strengths, not my weaknesses.”
With renewed confidence and a fresh perspective, Rybakina’s career began to soar. She won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2022 and has since become one of the most dominant forces in women’s tennis.
Rybakina’s story serves as a powerful reminder that even the toughest opponents can be overcome with self-awareness, determination, and a willingness to seek help.
