In a remarkable display of generosity and patriotism, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes has donated $17,000 to the Gary Sinise Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders.

Skenes, 22, made a pledge at the beginning of his rookie season to donate $100 to the Gary Sinise Foundation for every strikeout he recorded. With his impressive 170 strikeouts this season, Skenes’ generous contribution will directly support the foundation’s mission to raise funds for veterans and first responders.

What makes Skenes’ donation even more remarkable is his personal connection to the military. Just two years ago, he was attending the Air Force Academy, with plans to serve in the military. Although his baseball career has taken off, Skenes still intends to serve in the military once his baseball journey is over.
